Once Upon A Mattress – Holiday 2015

November is always an exciting time of year around the Coaster Theatre with preparations to open our time-honored holiday show and the kick off of the holiday season it is a special time of year. Since 1972, the holiday show at the Coaster Theatre Playhouse has delighted generations of theatre goers. From classic holiday themed shows such as A Christmas Carol to Irving Berlin’s White Christmas and classic musicals from My Fair Lady to Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, a Coaster Theatre holiday show is a time-honored tradition. On November 13th we kicked off our 43rd holiday show with Once Upon a Mattress – a musical retelling of the true story of The Princess and the Pea. Tickets for our 2016 season went on sale and we debuted our new 2016 brochure in print and online. The end of the month saw auditions for our 2016 shows Dead Guilty (Jan. 29 – Feb. 20, 2016) and The Apple Tree (March 4 – April 16, 2016). So, as always, we are moving and shaking around the theatre this holiday season.

Here are a few theatre related items from around the web we found interesting during November.

November’s a big month for theatre history…just a few notable dates in November.

“The greatest dance number ever filmed” according to Fred Astaire…hard to disagree.

Geoffrey Rush on playing King Lear: “What’s to like? His parenting skills are appalling!”

Two-minute Set Changeover

If the notable dancer/choreographer Twyla Tharp is Dracula, dance is her lifeblood.

Did you know there were no original musicals in 1966, 1994, 1995, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2012? 50 years of Broadway source material 1965-2014.
